Turquoise / Howlite Turquoise is one of the official birthstones for the month of December. The beauty and history of turquoise is hard to match! Steeped in history and intrigue, it is truly a captivating stone. It has been used in religion, art, trade, treaty negotiations and of course jewelry. A stone of life, beauty, and good fortune. Heralded as the stone of communication, it is thought to improve understanding and encourage attention to detail while attracting prosperity and success.
Onyx is the birthstone for February, symbolizing relaxation and comfort. Onyx is a form of chalcedony, which is a microcrystalline quartz. It is formed in the gas cavities of lava. Its multi-layering is similar to that of agates. When the stone has a black base and a white upper layer, it's called onyx. (Black onyx is uniformly black chalcedony.) Black onyx has been associated with regeneration and new beginnings. It is said to be useful in fighting basic fears and in helping to create the opportunity to move beyond bad relationships--and to heal old emotional wounds.
